The Mountain

I always belonged to the mountain
even though city born and bred
deep in my bones there was the mountain
deep in my mind a voice that said;
Climb up on the mountain
feel the wind in the trees
listen to the sounds of silence
remember how it feels to be free

As soon as I could I left the city
ran away as far as I could go
learned to be alone in the wilderness
to unlock the chains around my soul
Whenever I'm overloaded
when my cup overflows
when my soul weighs me down full and heavy
and I need somewhere to go

I go, climb up on the mountain
feel the wind in the trees
listen to the sounds of silence
remember how it feels to be free

Sit down on the mountain
put yourself in it's embrace
listen to the sounds of silence
there is no more holy place
Than up on the mountain
feel the wind in the trees
listen to the sounds of silence
remember how it feels to be free
high on the mountain
up high on the mountain

"There's always been a mountain in my life. Even in the city I have always managed to find a place to be alone in nature where I could recharge my batteries, process things, relax, heal. Being alone in the bush or on the ocean is one of the most important things in my life. It is a deep well of nourishment, of creativity, of grounding myself back in the real world of trees and animals, stone and water away form the collective unconscious madness of our increasingly self destructive civilization."
