Beautiful PlaceThe new album from Dinesh Moylan
Beautiful Place came about due to some fairly unusual circumstances and it has been perhaps the most fruitful and creative period of my life so far. ...The topics which inspired songs for the album were diverse. Some were to do with the outer world, the position the human race finds itself in, and some were to do with the inner world. Several of the songs deal with the issue I think is the major one faced by the human race. We have an ancient herd instinct that allows us to be lead by the wrong people- often people with psychopathic tendencies who are very good at seizing and retaining power. They lead us into wars, genocide and repressive regimes. Our history is full of textbook cases of maniacs killing millions of people. We urgently need a public debate to design a new form of government, one not based on an adversarial system hundreds of years out of date. Then perhaps we can choose people who can co-operate globally to confront the enormous problems we face as a species. I wanted the album to have a cohesive feel to it, to be an album, not just a collection of songs. Most of the songs started as a live take- that is I sat down in front of some mics and played guitar and sang the song all the way through in one go - one of the hardest things to do I find. The other parts were then added one at a time. These are very exciting times to be an independent singer songwriter with the fantastic technology which enables you to do broadcast quality recordings in your own home. The stifling age of domination by huge conglomerate record companies is at an end. Hooray! Corporate capitalism and creativity don't mix - the result is a bunch of managers and accountants churning out the same old junk- because it sold well last year. Viva la revoluçion!
